Welcome to the Cross Plains Heritage Commission!
The Cross Plains Heritage Commission is the local historical society for Cross Plains, Tennessee. Our organization was formed in 1986 as part of the Tennessee Homecoming '86 Celebration. Our mission is to preserve the history and heritage of Cross Plains, Orlinda, and the eastern part Robertson County.
The Doctor's House
We also operate a museum and archives for Cross Plains and the surrounding area. At one time the home of Dr. Burgess Thomas, the Doctor's House is now the home to our museum and archives. It is located at:
7821 Highway 25 East (Main Street)
Cross Plains, Tennessee 37049
(Please note this is not our mailing address.)
The Doctor's House is staffed entirely by volunteers and is usually open on Tuesday's and Thursdays from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm., however, these days and hours of operation vary depending on the time of year. If you will be traveling through our area we strongly advise you contact us ahead of time to make arrangements for the house to be opened.
Inside the Doctor's House you'll find an archive room with a collection or resources for genealogical and historical research as well as a museum containing pictures and items important to the history of Cross Plains and Eastern Robertson County.
